Frequently Asked Questions & Help
Everything you need to know about SnipFerryHow does SnipFerry protect my data?
SnipFerry uses two layers of protection:
- 100% Client-Side Processing: All 47+ utilities (JSON, text formatting, encoding, hashing) run inside your browser. Data is never sent to our server.
- Zero-Knowledge E2EE Sharing: When sharing live rooms, your browser encrypts text with AES-GCM-256 before transmission. The key is in the URL hash, so even our servers cannot read it.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. Tools, Magic Paste and encrypted live rooms work without logging in, including QR codes and expiry. Creating password-protected rooms, burn-after-reading rooms and custom links requires a free account.
What does creating a free account give me?
A free account adds password protection, burn after reading, custom links, higher room limits and Cloud History, allowing you to access rooms created on your desktop from your mobile phone, save text snippets to your cloud account, and pin favorite tools.
Is SnipFerry really free?
Yes. Every tool and every room feature — encryption, passwords, burn after reading, QR codes and custom links like snipferry.com/s/my-project — is free. Creating password-protected rooms, burn-after-reading rooms and custom links requires a free account, with up to 3 active custom links at a time. Recipients can open protected rooms as guests with the required password and encryption key. Guest and account room limits are listed on the comparison page. There are no paid plans. Rooms expire after at most 7 days so storage stays small.
What is "Burn After Reading"?
When Burn After Reading is turned on, the first successful recipient read atomically removes the room from active storage, so later reads return “not found.”
Can I use SnipFerry offline?
Yes! SnipFerry is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can install it on your laptop or phone, and all client-side tools work offline without an active internet connection.
